I need a little help getting started
« on: March 12, 2004, 11:55:59 PM »
I am music education major and I want to learn to play church music. Being that all of my piano professors at the school I am at only teach a classical style of playing, I am going to try to learn some things on my own.  I have been messing around with chord charts for the different songs, but I am unclear of a few things.  If a chord is indicated DA/D(1) or Db/FBb(3)Ebwhat does that mean? Does the number represent the inversion or does it represent an augmented chord or a scale degree?  Also, with the chord charts, do they only act as an outline for the song and one add a melodic line on top of the chord progressions, to reproduce the melody of the song.  I am just trying to get started in the right direction, before I get to deep in this.

Any help will greatly be appreciated
