Man, I have seen the video like goin on 3 times, and the video has been a blessing to me and other musicians.  What he is talkin about is something will expose the devil and his evil tactics!  Seriously...Even if there are those out there who don't agree, it is sooo important that ALL musicians see this video seriously.  My church is showing it to our community this Saturday, but most of us have seen it atleast twice already!  Good lookin to u, and I got ya back every step of the way.  I believe in standing for TRUTH! In todays society, folk want to stand for the wrong reasons, well finally, I have a reason to take a stand, and like I said, I got ur back.  And for those who can't get in contact wit redone...hit me up!

Thanks for the response everyone. Well i would have mentioned the video but for the simple fact i didnt even know about the dvd until someone told me. now it cost money to buy one of these dvd's but its worth it. but if your like me and the only money u have left is to buy a drink and a moon pie for lunch at work then rite here is where u need to be.  first off im real and im also a sinner. so everything i say is about me first and a little on da dvd and all about God.
Our first topic is goin to be talkin about what hip hop means and where it comes from and what its all about.

question 1 is how many of u musicians play any hip hop or r and b chords or rythms in your church music or even practice to get an edge. hit me up?

If you keep on doin what u always done u gon keep on getting what u always got. god bless!

I don't know what's with the charades but I've seen video footage that hip-hop came from african american preachers. Listen to any african american preachers on any given sunday. He or she will typically begin in cadence and song pattern. That's rap 101 ******. You want to hip=hop listen to me. It's a celebration of black thought from gospel, to blues, jazz, r&b, soul, soca, reggae, and our most celebrated rap. We all borrow from each style respectively. All the way to the roots of africa. Hip hop has been here since the day a black man/woman learned to tell a story to an audience in rhythmic form. I'm a military professional and a professional musician alike. I hear drill sergeants rappin' the troops up and down the streets every day. Corporate America exploited and sold it now it's a mythical hip hop fantasy. Wake up and listen to your pastors rap the message of Jesus Christ upside your head and into your hearts. Peace and love.

Tim

U are mixing 2 worlds into one.  The World and God's church has NEVER and will NEVER Be one! Trust and beleive that God does not have to borrow from no one!  If anything it's the enemy that borrows, or better stated, imitates God!

Look, believe what you want. I'm just stating facts. I'm not debating anything because I know what I'm talking about. Sorry but some unknowing religious zealot has told you wrong. If our culture hasn't crossed cultures then explain Kirk Franklin and Tonexs' musical style. Does that "I've been looking for you" song by Kirk not contain a sample from a 1970s r&B song? Is that what you would consider borrowing from the other world? Have you heard of Howlin' wolf or Muddy Waters? Their blues legends. Listen to them and their vocal styles and then pop in some James Cleveland. They hoop almost identically. We borrow from what we see and hear all the time. Most of the time without even knowing it.The way you walk, talk, and even dress has borrowed attributes from somewhere and somebody. Maxwell broke out into a shout styled song in 1994 right in the middle of an R&B concert. John P. Kee uses hip hop grooves all the time. Listen to "made up mind" and "made up mind remix" on the "show-up" EP and tell me that it ain't new jack. He even gives credit to Master P for using the "wooble wooble" hip hop dance beat on "what's the verdict" found on the "not guilty" EP. Ever heard of Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, or Aretha Franklin? Dear Ms. we borrow from one another all the time to stay "fresh" and to draw that impressionable audience to the message which is not the music at all but that Jesus lived and died for the sins of the world and rose with all power in his hands. Wooble wooble!

Your brother,
Tim

I just wanted to add my 2 cents in.  I've seen G. Craig Lewis in person so I have some things to day about his message.  Music is a universal language that we can all identify with.  Everything that African Americans sing today came from Gospel.  So reguardless of what people say, Hip Hop has really borrowed from Gospel.  Actually no style has borrowed from another style.  Why does C#maj9 has to considered a Jazz chord.  My does the scale C-E-F-Gb-G-Bb-C has to be considered a Blues Scale.  Music is just music, it's all in who you glorify in the music.  Yes, I play the "blues scale" yes, I'll hit some "jazz chords," yes I'll hit some "r&B" chords, and any other chord, scale, or progression but that does mean that I'm not praising God.  "let everything that has breath praise the Lord"  that's what I do when I play.
Keep God first and he'll do the rest!!!

To both of you.  Honestly, I am not offended by what either of you have said.  I hope and pray that timroy is not offended at our disagreements.  But I think that we all can agree that his facts about Bone-Thugs N Harmony, Snoop Dogg, and some others is good information to know.  I am fully aware that rnb borrows from gospel and vice versa...but at the same time...the musicians who are borrowing cannot borrow every rnb chord they come accross...That's all I am saying.

His point was more about the effect that certain hip hop artists have had on this generation...when you look at it...it can be very scary that I can preach a dynamic message and 2 people come up for prayer, but a rapper has thousands of people dressing, acting, and thinking like them.  You cannot tell me that music didn't have something to do with that :).

A concerned Saint :)

I see nothing wrong with hip-hop style of music.  What's wrong with listening to music that u can bounce to?  Nothing in my opinion.  As long as there is a good message and no profanity in it, it's all good to me.

It's the words and the lifestyle that I have a problem wit.  When every other word is a curse word (yall know them 4-letter words) or derrrogatory word (b's, hoes, n***a), then I have a problem wit dat.  If your only subjects are sex, drugs, guns, and money, I have a problem wit dat.  If you gotta shoot somebody, dress a certain kinda way, sell drugs, be a P.I.M.P., etc. I have a problem wit dat.  Basically, anything wit a negative message, I have a problem wit.

Not all hip-hop is bad so don't diss the whole hip-hop style, just use what's good and eliminate the bad stuff.  Just my opinion!!!
Real musicians play in every key!!!

Absolutely, that's all I'm saying. It all belongs to God. We know from the beginning why were made and who made us. The bible teaches us that it is Satans occupation to steal, kill, and destroy. As a musician, if it sounds good I'm going to paly it to glorify God. In the secular genre musicians are going to play what sounds good to glorify sex (dressed as love), money, bling bling, material posssessions, depression (blues), stealing, killing, and destruction to make it sound good. Music is just another creation of God. Our message is in direct conflict with the latter. So let us continue to lift up the name of Jesus in song and through holy communication whatever it's vehicle may be.

No doubt- I love Hip-Hop beats but more so I love Jesus and his teachings.
