man how in the world do y'all know how to play these songs just by listening to them!? man i wish i could do that! :\

Sometimes, I know what's being played, but most times I just have a good idea and then I confirm my ideas when I get to a keyboard.  It comes from many, many, many years of listening to music, analyzing using theory, and being able to recognize progressions and familiar chords.  In college, my teacher used to just give us a classical piece of music and tell us to write down the chord patterns underneath.  It was real hard cuz sometimes there would be all these single notes, and we had to rearrange the single notes and try to make chords out of them.  We also had to tell if the piece modulates, where the piece modulates to, and at what point does it modulate.  Sometimes them songs was like 3 and 4 pages long, very hard and boring at the time, but man do I appreciate it now.  I even hear the music from movies where the orchestra is playing and I can pick out progressions.  I be like, "Oh that's a secondary dominant, oh that's 2 going to 5, etc." It's wierd at times!!!
