Simple Help (PLEASE LOOK)
« on: December 04, 2005, 11:26:58 PM »
OK I know this will sound crazy. I play the keyboard, but I can't move my fingers (spinal cord injury).  I do OK with filling gaps, preaching chords, closing & alter call, but I only have a small selection that I can play. I need more & know you guys can help.  I can usually get a triad with my left hand, as long as it's white keys & single notes with my right. I'm not complaining about what I have. I'm thankful that God has allowed me to play as well as I do & I understand quite a bit. I just can't implement what I know because of my fingers. I didn't play before my accident & have being trying less than a year once my church had a need for someone.  Here's a few examples of what I play & hopefully it'll give you an idea. By the way, I'll transpose if needed.  I know other keys but, again, the fingers.
I don't know how clear this will be & I have a little more that I've figured out, but if someone could direct me on learning how to post audio, I'll upload some.  Better yet, I'll do video if possible.  Thanks a lot in advance & God bless.

LH/RH (comma individual notes)
(transposed to Eb)
C E G/B
C E G/B
D F A/C
E G B/D
E G B/C#
That's just a portion of opening of service.  Here's my preaching chords.
(not transposed)
C#/Bb C#
D/C# Eb
Eb/Eb F#
I play around with those @ different times for different sounds.  Here's closing & alter call.
(not transposed)
F#/Eb
F/C#
 /F#, Eb, C#
Eb/Bb
 /C#
C#/F#

I don't know if you able to stretch your fingers or not. I got this from hammondman a long time ago. This will be in the key of c

LH
A / GCE
D/ FACE    ( 6,2,5,1) ** This will give you a mellow sound))
G/ FABE
C/ EGC

Then you can try this if its comfortable for you.
C/ EGC
F/ ACE
F/ EGAC

I hope this helps. If this isn't comfortable let me know and I will come up with something better. Just a hint this is mainly worship style music.

GodsSn2, I have a little trouble with that, but I have adapted it & that's usually what I have to do.  I appreciate it & would love some more.  I usually can't play anything fast because of my fingers, so worship is fine.  I plan to put a link to some videos in the next day or 2 and that'll give a better idea on how I have to play.  Thanks again & God bless.

After I see how you play I will be able to offer you something more suitable to your playing style. I apologize for sending you information that you can't use. I promise to come up with something more efficient for you. Take care and God Bless.

GodsSn2, no need for an apology.  You took time to respond.  I'm VERY grateful.  Like Hammondman said, the devil is still defeated.  I can use whatever you help me with.  If I can't use it now, I'll have it when God blesses me with use of my fingers again.  I'll record some video tomorrow & post a link.  Thanks again.

Here's a little of what & how I play.  My battery went dead in the cam so I'll try to do a little more later; preaching chords & what not.  I hope this clears it up a little. Notice the right hand is usually single note. Most of this is transposed on the keyboard 3 half-steps & the sustain pedal down continuously. Click Here for Video

Hey bro,
Ok I see what you mean. You sound good playing! Are you more comfortable in the white keys than the black keys? If so that is cool I will work on whatever I can to help you. I will try to come up with some clips to help you as well. Be blessed and I will be in touch with you soon.

Thanks for the compliment. If I'm playing chords with my left, then white keys are easier.  I can usually only get to one black at a time and can't switch between white and black with the left unless it's single notes.
Thanks for the effort.  God bless.

I am not good at coming up with stuff to play for alter calls or opening but I could do a song. Do you know "we are standing on holy ground", if so I could do this song in an easy format that would fit you well.

Make another post telling me what you can do. Do you play chords in your right hand as well and can you do other inversions of 3 toned chords such as an E-G-C in your left or right hands.

Thanks to everyone.

psychopianoman, I can do some inversions, but usually I have to use the last 2 notes of the inversion. ie: E-C-G = C-G for me or I use 2 hands. I'll do some of that on the next video. I can't play chords with the right but I sometimes use it for the 4th note on chords. As for songs, I'll welcome anything you give.  If I don't know it, I'll find a midi file somewhere.
Thanks again & the interest that you all are showing is really encouraging & motivational. I can't wait to see what you all have for me.  God bless you all in a special way.

Mann i jus wanna let you know that the Devil is not pleased with you. lol.
Inspite what you have endured you are still using what you have to glorify God.  I am so overjoyed to see somebody do that.

Do you know the alter call song. Thank You Lord.  I could post that with the chords in the left, and melody in the right.  If you dont let me know and I'll post it and anymore that you want.

Just keep working for God mann.

God Bless

musiq16, How's that saying go? Ain't nobody mad but the devil. Post what you will.  I'll take it all in & put it to use beyond my ability because I am not limited by my ability nor my inability, but all things are possible through Christ that stregnthens me.  When it's all said and done, God is still God.

If you have word I will send it as an attachment so it will be displayed properly or I can hope it will send properly in an email.

I just emailed it to myself and it was messed up. It automatically takes all the spaces out so I will have to send as an attachment. Let me know and I will send it and make some more.

That was really nice, and I'm not just saying that. I like the slow worship music the best.

Godsn2, Thanks for that. I like that sound. I played it very slow & then mid tempo & it works for me.  I played with it & found some new stuff from it as well.  Like I transposed the keyboard up 6 half-steps and got a totally different sound.  I'm adding that to my small, but growing, list. They'll probably hear it Sunday.  Thanks.

Thanks playhear. I like the slow worship music also, & that's kinda what I'm limited to right now, but I can play some uptempo stuff, just not a lot.
