I think that my playing has gotten better, but not quite where I want wanna be.  I was always taught to be humble.  So people will never catch me bragging about myself.  Even though people tell me I'm doing so well, I still think I'm doing, OOOOKKKAAAAYYY :?

My playin needs prayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     people say that I play pretty good for my age and the time that I've been learnin like a year and half off and on, but I know I need some help, I think all I need is some good practice time and a good keyboard cause  a lot of people think I play better than what I really do. and they be saying stuff like " Im tired of you actin like you can't play, I heard you before and you tight!" and I be like, "naw im alright" , and they be like ," oh you so modest", cause I play for two churches and I don't know how! But I see Myself be farther than where I am now cause Im not satisfied, need to be able to flow! 8) peace love soul and the Holyghost!

I'm good but not "tight." (Tight-slang-very skilled) I can look very skilled but i can only play so much. Perhaps when I get some more material and improve my ability to play complex peices and runs, I'll at least consider myself tight but no Stevie.

It apparrently seems as though we all suffer from the same ideas about our personal playing not being the greatest while others think we are phenominal.  I too suffer from that on the keys.  I made my audition on the keys, and they told me that I am just awesome.....however, certain members expect me to play sometihng by ear right now and I have only just learned over the course of the past few weeks.  So I feel kind of bad like I am letting them down...but I am still learning a new area of music to me...in time and in gods plan my playing will prosper.  Now when they say something about my other instruments I'm ok with it minus the blushes and embarrassment for the praise that I so long to hear.

I guess when it comes down to it....God gave us all gifts,,,they may even be the same gifts but different levels, or different gifts from others.  I can play a mean sax, but I can not draw blue prints for a house.  God speaks of in the bible that if he gives you seeds(talents) and you do not sow(improve, play, etc) them they will become stagnant.  If you sow( improve, play etc.) the seeds(talents) then the fruit(your ability to minsiter) of the seeds(your talent) will prosper!

I'm definately not where I use to be, but definately not where I desire to be. But I am progressing! I will never know it all and never will I arrive; therefore I will never stop practicing! For when I think that I know it all, I will discover that there's so much more. And when i think that I have arrived, I will realize that I'm just half way there! Music is unlimited and we're always learning. Be blessed.

I feel the same way. I told a guy this morning at church that music is kind of like the Bible. You can never know all of eaither one of them. Just think what heaven will be like. We will have a full knowledge and understanding of music.

Hi,

I was introduced to the piano as a young boy, had 4 lessons and then had to quit due to a lack of funds. I then got taught 1 song called "There Is None Like You" at my church and then my playing rose from there.

When I first played the keyboard during church, I received a massive response of applause, and people started saying how good I was and I should play more often, but no matter how many people said this, I knew I was a beginner and had to play in the key of C and use transpose, for every song.

Knowing that our musician would not play the keyboard unless it was Sunday or a guest speaker was coming it made me more determined to improve my skills on the keyboard. This, although became extremely difficult as our musician would not teach me or help me in anyway.

Therefore, I had to beg, borrow and steal any techniques I could hear and find in order to improve, and with the help of DVD’s, advice forums this website and others my playing style and knowledge of the keyboard has increased dramatically.

Currently, my abilities are pretty good; I can now play in 8 different keys fluently and have developed my ear strongly. I regularly play for our mens choir and have played during Sunday services.

Although I didn’t start out strongly and it took me a long time, I have developed a lot of skills and techniques. God has really blessed me and helped me along the way, my advice would be try to play as much as you can and pray when you cannot play.

Always Remember: Little is much when God is in it.

God has been blessing me to learn and grow a lot.  I still, however, have a long way to go.  I thank God for this site, and earnestandroline.com, because before that, I was just trying to do it all on my own, which proved to be very difficult.  I play for my church, but I don't know that I'm really "good enough" or we just don't have anybody else right now, but they are very encouraging and my M.O.M. works with me a lot, she doesn't play, but she knows what sounds right and what needs work.  I consider it a blessing to be able to play because it really forces me to grow more so than if I was learning at my own pace.  So on my own self evaluating scale, I'd say I've gone from a pitiful hindrance to the service, to not taking anything from the service and actually adding and being a blessing to the service.  Maybe I'll dig up this post and reply again in 3 months, six months, a year, and so on.
