Hi,
I was introduced to the piano as a young boy, had 4 lessons and then had to quit due to a lack of funds. I then got taught 1 song called "There Is None Like You" at my church and then my playing rose from there.
When I first played the keyboard during church, I received a massive response of applause, and people started saying how good I was and I should play more often, but no matter how many people said this, I knew I was a beginner and had to play in the key of C and use transpose, for every song.
Knowing that our musician would not play the keyboard unless it was Sunday or a guest speaker was coming it made me more determined to improve my skills on the keyboard. This, although became extremely difficult as our musician would not teach me or help me in anyway.
Therefore, I had to beg, borrow and steal any techniques I could hear and find in order to improve, and with the help of DVD’s, advice forums this website and others my playing style and knowledge of the keyboard has increased dramatically.
Currently, my abilities are pretty good; I can now play in 8 different keys fluently and have developed my ear strongly. I regularly play for our mens choir and have played during Sunday services.
Although I didn’t start out strongly and it took me a long time, I have developed a lot of skills and techniques. God has really blessed me and helped me along the way, my advice would be try to play as much as you can and pray when you cannot play.
Always Remember: Little is much when God is in it.
