Chambers' basic ostinato

Alright check this out:  This is a basic Dennis Chambers Ostinato.  He does something like this in his solo on the video with Tony Royster jr.

Step 1: count quarter notes on the hihat with your left foot. 1,2,3,4.....

Step 2: play the bass drum on 2 & 4 of the quarter notes. 1, boom, 3, boom, 1......

Step 3: play eighth note triplets with your left hand on the snare. 1 & a, 2 & a, 3 & a, 4 & a......

*Step 4:  play a jazz ride pattern on your ride with your right hand.  Here's the trick.  Speed it up and slow it down while the rest of your limbs stay in time.

*Step 5 bonus: Keep the jazz ride pattern going in time with your right hand. Now use your left hand that is playing the eighth note triplets and speed it up and slow it down using a sixteenth note pattern. (Your left hand is playing singles. LLLL LLLL LLLL LLLL. 1 e & a, 2 e & a, 3 e & a, 4 e & a...... (switch back and forth between 8th note triplets and 16th note patterns.)

Well, I was reading an interview that was on DW Edge magazine with this drum tech that said that Wrap finishes are better for the road because they are better for dents and nicks here and there.  He said that Lacquer finishes look nice but for the road the can get ugly quick.  He made a good point and right now thinking about that the PDP CX's have one up on the Sonor's because I'll use the kit on the road a lot.  Plus, it's cheaper.

Easy way to learn the jazz ride pattern and to remember it is to say it... spang-spang-a-lang-spang-a-lang-spang-a-lang-spang-spang-spang-a-lang etc
