Hi,
I am going thru the same thing, especially chord-wise/  Check out this site for some 9th, 11th and 13 chords.  A coupla good books:  The Jazz Piano Book and also Jermaine Griggs play by ear course has a good section on altered chords.  I have been doing a LOT of listening to different gospel artists on CD and area churches and it is helping.  And prayer is everything...
God Bless :)

I'm beginning to develop a style/FLAVA on the keyboard. What I've done so far is listen to songs specifically for the piano/keyboard part. I also have been playing peices that are from different songs with excellent piano parts. Chords that I liked, I made my own songs off of, used those kinds of chords. I also Played around with the notes to different kinds of songs, trying to incorporate those chords into the song I was playing. I afterwards started experimenting with runs using the same technique. Its not as complicated as it sounds. I hope that helps.
