I've heard alot of musicians suggest that learning keys in the order of the circle of fifths makes it much easier.

Circle of Fifths: C F Bb Eb Ab C# F# B E A D G

The Circle of Fifths is an easy way to find out the key a song is in. The Circle of Fifths tells you how many sharps or flats are in a given key. C has no sharps or flats. It is called the Circle of Fifths because as you go clockwise you go up a fifth. For example, the fifth note of the C major scale is G. The fifth note of the G major scale is D, and so on.

You're on the right track. You're going from no flats - one flat, two flats, three flats (Eb) and so on. Here is an easy Eb song for you. You can play this.  Its not going to sound like the song in the beginning because you don't know the chords. Learn the right hand first, then add the left hand bass. Tempo is the key.  :D

Title: I Really Love the Lord
Chorded By: Will
Key of: Eb

L.H. / R.H. Lyrics  (left hand is bass)

BigK;

It doesn't matter where you start - as long as you start somewhere. The first thing you should do is learn the scale and chords in every keys. I'm guity of not learning alot of theory because I learned to play by ear.

To answer your question, your can use those same chords for other songs. The only difference is the arrangement of how you would play them. If you have a good ear, you probably could hear a no. of songs just by playing the Eb chords in I Really Love The Lord. But, if you don't you will pick it up later.

Just take your time and practice. I think Eb is a good key to learn because its fun to play. Just have fun.  :D

I agree with Sis JoyCH is that where you start isn't so much important. You see, in gospel we alter everything anyway . . . we like our "phat" chords, you know!  :D

Sometimes I see some songs that we say "This song is in Eb" and I look at all those other incidental flats and I say, "Yeah, right. Now, how in the world can that be in Eb?"  :wink:  :D

But, yes . . . . C is a good key to learn in, but black gospel doesn't do a lot in C.

F is a common key, with only one flat. Bb and Eb are common keys as well. That will give you a good start and you can play MANY songs in the range of what gospel singers usually sing in.

Now, I am going to recommend that after you learn C, F, Bb and Eb . . . others may disagree . . . but I am going to recommend that you learn Db.  8O Yes, Db. Why? Because after Db, you won't be scared of anything!  Even Gb won't intimidate you :wink:

Hope this helps. Be Blessed  :D
